Okla. Board Moving Ahead With ME's New Office

Posted: Updated:

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - An Oklahoma board is moving forward with plans to build a new medical examiner's office after the state Supreme Court said selling school-related bonds to pay for construction is legal.

Justices last week said it was OK to sell $38.5 million in bonds under a finance program designed for colleges and universities. The new medical examiner's office will be built at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

The court became involved after a legislator complained that any state agency could partner with a college and qualify for financing. Supporters argued that building the office on a college campus will save money.

The Medical Legal Board of Investigations will reportedly meet Thursday to begin work on the financing.
