Frederick Voters To Decide Sales Tax Issue

Posted: Updated:

FREDERICK, Okla._ Voters in Frederick will hit the polls Tuesday to decide whether to change an economic development sales tax to a capital improvement tax to expand and improve the city's lagoon system.

The one-half-cent tax was approved in 2003 for economic development. The proposed lagoon project is reportedly estimated to cost $7 million. It would help the lagoon system meet state and federal requirements.

Frederick City Manager Robert Johnston says the proposal is designed to reduce the need for increases in sewer rates, limiting them to the range of $4-6 per month. If voters approve, the sales tax will be available for the sewer project effective April 1, when the debt for previous projects is paid off.
