LAWTON,Okla_High school marching bands from across Oklahoma converged at sunny Cameron stadium Tuesday to take part in the OSSAA Southwestern Regional Marching Competition.
Hundreds of high school musicians start rehearsals in the heat of the summer and don't end rehearsals until frigid winter. Madill High School is one of the two dozen bands that participated.
Their band director, Crystal Cortes, feels her squad was up to the challenge.
"It means a lot that the kids work hard enough to be able to come out and do it. You don't have to pre-qualify to come, but I wouldn't bring a band that I didn't think would do a decent job and be seen in public," said Cortes.
The top bands from the contest will be selected to compete in the superior marching contest later in the year.
