Red Cross volunteers and donors from across Southwest Oklahoma gathered Tuesday to honor their achievements over the past year.
Over the past year area volunteers were dispatched to the aftermath of the Moore tornadoes, as well as the hardest-hit areas of Superstorm Sandy in addition to local disasters that included more than 30 house fires.
"The volunteers are hugely vital. We can not do it without them. The American Red Cross has over 500,000 volunteers nationwide. We have a small portion of those right here in Southwest Oklahoma, but their just as vital as any other volunteer," said Red Cross Community Outreach Manager of Southwest Oklahoma.
The Red Cross local chapter serves six counties and has nearly 50 volunteers, most of which are involved with disaster relief.
