Gov. Mary Fallin Hosts Fundraiser in Lawton

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ Governor Mary Fallin formally announced her bid for a second term Thursday.

She visited Lawton for a campaign fundraiser, following similar events in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Governor Fallin said the state's economy has improved greatly during her first term, and she hopes to keep that momentum going for another four years.

"We hope to continue Oklahoma's forward motion," Fallin said. "Oklahoma went through the Great Recession like the rest of the nation. We've been working hard to have an Oklahoma comeback. Now, we're considered one of the strongest states in the nation with one of the lowest unemployment rates, and the best growth rate with a lot of jobs coming to Oklahoma. We've been focusing on making Oklahoma more efficient and more effective, eliminating waste and government spending. We are also keeping our taxes low, giving tax breaks, and by 2016, we'll have given back $1B."

Fallin made history four years ago, when she was chosen as the state's first female governor. The only other candidate who has announced plans to run is Democrat R.J. Harris, who previously ran for Congress as a Republican, and as an Independent.
