Trial to begin in Blanchard home invasion

Posted: Updated:

BLANCHARD, Okla_A trial is set to begin Monday in Grady County for a man charged with first degree murder after his alleged accomplice was shot and killed when the two broke in the home of a young widow.

31-year old Dustin Stewart is charged under a state law that allows murder charges if an accomplice is killed during the commission of a felony.  Prosecutors say that on New Year's Eve 2011, Stewart and Justin Martin broke into the home of Sarah McKinley, an 18-year-old new mother whose husband died of lung cancer six days earlier, on Christmas Day.

Authorities say McKinley shot and killed Martin and that Stewart ran away after hearing the gunshots.

Stewart has pleaded not guilty.
