Firefighters Save 3 Dogs From Burning Home

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._ Smoke could be seen for miles Saturday afternoon after a Lawton home went up in flames.

Firefighters were called to a home near SW 46th Street and Cherokee just after 3 p.m. Neighbors said they heard a loud boom, and when they went outside they saw large amounts of smoke and flames pouring out of both sides of the home.

The family was not there at the time of the fire, but its 3 dogs were inside. Firefighters were able to save all three.

This is not the first fire this family has had to deal with recently. The homeowner's brother just lost his home to a fire too. However, Saturday he was just glad his family is safe.

"We're just going to all pull together. When my house burned down that was nothing. As long as nobody gets hurt, everything inside is just material stuff."

The damage to the home is extensive, but firefighters said most of the damage was caused by the extreme heat of the fire.

Firefighters at the scene believe it was a gas line explosion that ignited the blaze.

At this time, they don't suspect anything suspicious, but the Lawton Fire Marshal was called in to investigate.
