Bushland Marching Band making school history

Bushland, Texas - It's not just football players that take to the field every week, but also the marching band.

One area school has made their way down to the State 2-A marching competition for the first time in their school history.

The Bushland High School Falcon Marching Band has packed up and headed to San Antonio. This group of kids is making school history.

"It's a pretty big deal. It's our first time for our high school to advance to a state marching band contest," Gregg Diamond, Bushland High School band director said.

For the seniors in the band, this is one great accomplishment they still can't believe they've reached.

"When they announced it, tears of joy started rushing down everyone's face. Words can't describe how happy this makes the whole band in order to pay off our hard work and our directors hard work," Hannah Gaddy, senior drum major said.

It isn't just blood sweat and tears for football players out here on the field, but it also means something pretty special to one band member.

Well you know, I can't play football because I'm low vision. I can't really do any sports, so this is my sport. It's really the only thing I can do outside of school. Band is... It's my passion. It's my favorite thing in the world. I can't say how proud I am of every person in this band for stepping up and working as hard as they did," Cory Gabel, senior saxophone player said.

Even if they don't come home first place winners, as long as they know they've put their best foot forward at state, they've already won.

"Where we place, we place. I just want them to be proud of what they do when they get off that field and know they just had their best performance in San Antonio," Diamond said.

The Falcons will be competing Monday and Tuesday in San Antonio at the Alamo Dome.
