Salvation Army Donating Heaters for Winter

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ This winter, the Lawton Salvation Army hopes to keep everyone warm, and they hope the community will help them accomplish that goal.

You can do that by donating a heater for southwest Oklahoma families who may need one.

The Salvation Army hopes to give out as many heaters as possible. Last year, over 40 homes after got the warmth they needed after they were given a heater, and they want to get the word out: these heaters aren't just keeping families comfortable in the cold weather. They're keeping them alive.

"It's not like super cold right now, but we know it's coming," Salvation Army Lieutenant Israel Roseno said.

In the midst of all the good that the Salvation Army is known for, from bell ringing to angel tree plucking, another important need is being tackled: keeping families shielded from the chill of the holiday season.

This year, Roseno said warming every home is one of the organization's top priorities.

"As people call us, we try to adapt to what the community needs," Roseno said. "A lot of families have electricity, and they have bills in good standing, but they just need a portable heater to help making sure the house is warm and the family is comfortable."

They're asking folks from all over to help by donating heaters for those who can't afford them. The more heaters that are donated, the more people the Salvation Army can help.

"That's money we don't have to spend on that area," Roseno said. "We can use those funds in areas that need attention as well."

Roseno said he's making sure no need for heat goes unfulfilled. He gives credit to the folks who open their hearts and step up when others are down during the cold.

"The community has been extremely good to us," Roseno said. "We thank the community first for being so good to us, and we just ask them to continue to support us, because there are a lot of people here in Lawton that need those services. If we can help, and they need, we will help."

If you'd like to donate a new portable heater, you can stop by the Salvation Army on "E" avenue from 10:00AM-Noon and then from 1:00PM-3:00PM Monday through Saturday. If you need a heater this season, Lieutenant Roseno said he hopes to hand them out all season until March.
