Lawton_The Lawton Food Bank celebrated a new beginning in its new location on SW Sheridan Road Friday.
The move has been years in the making and the new 10,000-square-foot building will also serve as the resource center for the entire region.
Food bank Director Jeri Mosiman says they've come a long way and she's ready to get to work.
"I am so grateful for this. This will make it so we can feed our families more efficiently and effectively and that's really is what it's all about, just helping our neighbors in need," Mosiman said.
The Food Bank was also grateful to receive two generous donations. Arvest Bank presented a $24,000 check, while Jim Glover Chevrolet donated $5,000.
"It breaks my heart when I see some kid or some family that's struggling and our organization, Jim Glover Chevrolet is about that," said Steve Barnes, general manager of Jim Glover Chevrolet.
"We just want to just help during the holidays because they see a higher number of families in need," said Angela Spradlin, Arvest Bank.
Spradlin says their check was the result of the bank's Million Meals campaign.
Area schools also pitched in, by donating 9,800 food items.
