Emergency crews respond to Hutchinson Co. explosion

Amarillo, TX - Emergency crews in Hutchinson County worked for several hours Friday afternoon to put out the flames caused by an oil rig explosion.

It happened just after 3:00 Friday afternoon about 20 miles northeast of Stinnett on the Turkey Track Ranch. The fire caught after fluids got to close to the rig, causing the explosion which spread flames to three nearby tanker trucks, surrounding grass and two vehicles. The rig itself was capped and did not ignite.

The flames were put out but 6:30 p.m. All workers were able to evacuate before the explosion and no injuries were reported.

Four companies suffered equipment losses in he blaze: Palo Duro Equipment, Tom Coble Gas & Oil, Phil Dollar Rig Service, and Turner Energy.
