Amarillo, TX - Amarillo police are searching for the suspect(s) involved in an overnight accident that left one person dead.

Officers responded to 45th and Canyon Drive just after midnight Sunday morning on reports that a motor vehicle had struck a pedestrian and fled the scene. APD was able to determine the pedestrian had been walking southbound across 45th Street when struck by a car and was carried some 200 yards before being thrown off the vehicle. The victim died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. The victim's identity has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin. An autopsy has been ordered.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle to officers as a light-colored, mid-sized sedan. It was last seen going westbound on SW 45th. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.

Officers encourage anyone who has seen a light-colored, four-door mid-sized sedan with new damage to the hood and windshield, to call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400 or the Traffic Investigation Squad at 378-4250.
