Amarillo firefighters hit by car while working structure fire

Amarillo, TX - Two Amarillo firefighters were injured while responding to a structure fire Sunday afternoon, but the injuries weren't from the blaze.

Around 3:30 p.m., the Potter County Fire Department, the Potter County Sheriff's Office, DPS and AMS all responded to 4401 N. Acres Drive for a structure fire.

The flames were extinguished quickly and everyone inside the home made it out safely.

While one firefighter was directing traffic around the scene, a woman driving nearby was confused and accidentally struck the firefighter.

A second firefighter was also hit the by the car after the woman believed she had put it in park and got out of the vehicle.

Both firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital. The woman was cited for failure to follow traffic control advice.
