New Firefighters Join Lawton Department

LAWTON Okla_ Lawton has 14 new firefighters Friday, one of the largest graduating classes in the fire department's history.

The department also added its first female to the force. Each new firefighter passed grueling tests and physical training to make the squad. This class has been training together for months, and they said in these life or death situations, they have each other's backs.

"It was incredible," Firefighter John Hambrick said. "I would trust any of the other 13 people, brothers and sisters going through the academy with me. I trust them with my life, and that's the way it should be."

This is also a big relief to the fire department. They were understaffed. Now, the department's back up to the minimum number.
