Identity theft victim goes to jail

Posted: Updated:

We're approaching the time of year when your identity is most at risk of being stolen.

We spoke with an area woman who was a victim to identity theft and landed behind bars.

A financial expert from First United Bank says protecting your drivers licence number is just as important as your social security number.

Callie Odell of Pampa says her identity was stolen from a thief who obtained her drivers license and wrote hot checks in her name.

"It's someone local, this is someone in our area that is doing something like this. It's not an online scam. Or anything with money orders. Its my drivers license number and an Amarillo bank and local business that were affected."

Odell went on to explain the process it takes to make sure you are clear after an identity theft occurs, a lesson she learned the hard way.
