UPDATE:

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Fire Marshals Office and the Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit are conducting investigations after a body was found Monday following a house fire in East Amarillo.

Fire officials found 73-year-old Gregorio Rodriguez inside a burning house on South Birmingham Street. They said there was a 4-year-old child inside the house as well, but the child escaped through the front door.

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to the blaze at 9:45 a.m. with three fire trucks and 14 firefighters. Officials said they had the fire under control within about 15 minutes, but the house was still heavily damaged.

The Potter-Randall Appraisal District said the house has an appraised value at $40,280.

The Red Cross provided the family with a safe place to stay and financial assistance to help with food and clothing. It has also made counselors available and will continue to help the family in the coming weeks.
