Amarillo joins national Operation Christmas Child collection

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - With the holidays right around the corner, Operation Christmas Child is getting ready to wrap up National Collection Week.

Although several collection sites were closed Sunday due to weather, Saint Stephen Church has spent the last week collecting donated shoe boxes filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items that will be shipped to impoverished children overseas.

This effort is just a part of a nationwide Operation Christmas Child collection with a mission of collecting some 9.8 million shoe boxes to be sent to kids in more than 100 countries around the world. "We have so much in this country,we are so blessed," said Karen Copeland, Amarillo Network Coordinator. "There are so many people around the world that have little or nothing, and I think it's very important that we share what we've been blessed with."

Amarillo will have one last collection day for Operation Christmas Child, and that's Monday, November 25.

If you'd like to donate a full shoe box you can drop it off at Saint Stephen Church in on Western Street in Amarillo.
