One killed, three injured after pickup strikes parked vehicle

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - One person is dead and three others are sent to the hospital after icy road conditions caused a pickup to slide and strike a parked vehicle.

The accident happened Saturday night at 8:20 on US 87 about one mile north of Riviera Park Drive.

Forty-three year-old Shannon Hensley of Texhoma, OK and a passenger were driving south on US 87 and were going too fast for the conditions on the roadway, according to DPS. The pickup began to swerve and went off the road traveling southwest, striking a parked van on the side of the road. The van was pushed back as a result of the impact and the pickup was flipped onto the driver's side.

Forty-two-year-old Crystal Gonzales, a passenger in the pickup, was killed in the accident and pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Hensley, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in stable condition.

The two people inside the parked van at the time of the accident, 32-year-old Tanja Purdy and 8-year-old Ethan Purdy, were also taken to Northwest Texas Hospital for minor injuries.
