Homicide suspect booked into Potter County Jail

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - A local man is arrested in Wednesday's early morning homicide.

He is being identified by Amarillo Police as 25 year old Michael Ross Philley.

Officials say he is now being held in the Potter County Jail, accused of murdering 53 year old Eddie Don Turlington. Philley was also booked on a warrant for assault against a family member.

Just after 6:30 Wednesday morning, police say they responded to a call for a possible stabbing on S. Mississippi Street in the San Jacinto area. That's when they found Turlington inside on the floor. They also found Philley who was detained and questioned.

At this time, Police are not calling this a random act. "I don't know of any special relationships, but they knew each other. But, that's really all I can tell you right now," Lieutenant Erick Bohannan said.

Special Crimes is still trying to determine a motive but Bohannan says it was an "obvious assault."

According to Potter-Randall Appraisal District records, Philley owns the house, where the incident occurred.

Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson has ordered an autopsy in Lubbock for Thursday morning.

Special Crimes asks anyone with information on this crime to call 378-9468.
