Landowners seek pipeline ruling

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A group of landowners in the path of a pipeline project are seeking a court ruling on whether the developers can take control of their land through eminent domain.

A newly formed nonprofit group called Kentuckians United to Restrain Eminent Domain filed a lawsuit Thursday in Franklin Circuit Court. They want to clarify whether developers of the Bluegrass Pipeline can seize land to make way for the 180-mile section of the pipeline that would run through Kentucky. The pipeline would carry hazardous natural gas liquids from the northeast to the Gulf of Mexico.

A spokesman for the Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams Company, one of the partners behind the project, said they do have authority to use eminent domain. He declined to comment on the lawsuit.
