Former OK House Speaker Rex Privett Dies

The first Oklahoma Speaker of the House to preside over three consecutive legislative sessions has died.

Speaker Rex Privett passed away Thursday of natural causes. Privett was first elected to the State House in 1956 to represent portions of Pawnee, Osage, Payne and Noble counties in northern Oklahoma and served as Speaker of the House from 1967 until 1972. He was later elected to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission after leaving the State Legislature before serving as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System from 1982 until 1995.

Privett will be laid to rest Wednesday in Norman.
