Randall County purchases new property to make residents safer

Posted: Updated:

Randall County, TX - Randall County purchased a new property Tuesday that will help make the county safer.

The county bought the land to serve as a multi-purpose facility for many different county departments.

The 88-acre property includes the Courts of Amarillo building just off of East Loop 335.

County commissioners said the building will be both a training and storage facility. "About 50 percent of it will be used for emergency services, like the fire department," said Judge Ernie Houdashell. "We've been talking about the Texas Forestry Service to possibly move in with us. The other part of the barn will be used for police training, fire training, and the 4-H stock show as well as other venue projects that we might have."

The property will also serve as a storage unit for vehicles and equipment of the Randall County Road Department. Including renovations, the property is costing the county just over five million dollars. Houdashell said the facility should be completed by next January.
