Interpreter claims he had psychotic break

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa_New developments in the bizarre story of a sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela's memorial service. The man, who is accused of being a fake, is speaking out. 

He says he suffers from schizophrenia and claims during the memorial he was hallucinating and hearing voices. The man says he is "very sorry."

 

The interpreter signed for a portion of the events including President Barack Obama's speech.
One member of South African Parliament, who is also vice president of the World Federation of the Deaf, called it an "international embarrassment."
