Extra revenue in Texas budget

Texas - There has been much talk over budgets this week in Washington and that's no different here in Texas.

Texas is in the green. An extra $2.5 billion in unspent revenue is being reported in the 2014 to 2015 state budget, and we can thank the lone star state's booming economy.

Comptroller Susan Combs delivered a report Thursday certifying the state budget passed this spring. Spending in the budget included restoring nearly $5 billion that was cut by the legislature in 2011 to help with a budget shortfall.

Combs told lawmakers oil and gas exploration is driving the state financially. The state's rainy day fund is expected to be at nearly $8 billion by the end of 2015.
