7 News Adopts an Angel

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._The Lawton Salvation Army's angel tree program helps around 400 families in our community each Christmas. It went up the day after Thanksgiving inside Central Mall, and several people have chosen angels are busy buying Christmas presents for them.  All those gifts are due back at the mall on Monday, so the Salvation Army staff will have time to wrap them all and deliver them to the families.

Sadly, there wasn't a shortage of angels to choose from on the tree, which means if you haven't adopted one yet you need to. Last year, we chose a girl from the tree, so today, I chose a boy.

It was a tough decision for me to make but after looking high and low, I finally picked an angel from the tree. We found our angel, his name is Vincent and he's eleven years old. He wants a remote control car, X-Box 360 action games and a soccer goal. So now it's time to go shopping. After registering our angel and telling the volunteers we would soon return, we were ready to shop for all things on Vincent's list.

Well, the first thing on his list was remote control cars. Here they are, let's see what they have. I had a hard time deciding between the Corvette and the monster truck... I think I'm going to go with the monster truck. X-Box 360 games were next on the list, and he said he wanted an action game. We decided to get him an X-Box 360 need for speed game, so now we're off to find the soccer goals. And surprisingly, there were only two choices, so it didn't take long pick one out. We decided on this soccer goal, and now we're going to go look for clothes.

Shopping for boys' clothes was something I knew was going to be a chore...I have no clue what they like to wear. I finally decided on a shirt and pants. Now that we're done shopping, it's time to check out. Then it was time to take the gifts back to the tree in the mall. Now, all there is left to do is wish Vincent a very merry Christmas from all of us at 7 News.

I'll admit it was a little tough shopping for a boy, but it's all worth it knowing how excited Vincent will be on Christmas morning seeing every present on his list under his Christmas tree.

There are still over forty angels left on the tree that need to be adopted, and they have only received 20% of the gifts for the angels back. Again, all gifts must be brought back to the mall by the time the mall closes this coming Monday.
