Fort Sill Soldiers Receive Free Christmas Trees

Posted: Updated:

FORT SILL, Okla. -  Only days away from Christmas, some Fort Sill soldiers received the most important decoration Saturday.

Fort Sill families were able to pick out their Christmas tree, free of charge, as part of the annual event, Trees for Troops.

The event kicked off just after 7 a.m. Saturday morning, but organizers said a line started form as early as 5 a.m.

In total, 389 trees were given away free of charge to soldiers.

This year will be Private First Class Thompson's first Christmas at Fort Sill, and he can't wait to show the tree to his little girl.

"She going to love it. We get to decorate it and it is going to be amazing. It's our first Christmas too. So to have our first Christmas tree and to be here is amazing."

All the trees were either donated by tree farms, or paid for by monetary donations from the public.
