Rush Springs Democrat Eyes Race Against Fallin

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Democratic state representative from Rush Springs says he intends to start raising money for a race against Republican Gov. Mary Fallin in 2014.

Rep. Joe Dorman, who is term-limited next year, said in a press release Tuesday that he plans to form a gubernatorial campaign exploratory committee. The 43-year-old Democrat was not immediately available for comment, but exploratory committee spokesman Mark Nestler said Dorman planned to file paperwork with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A native of Rush Springs and a graduate of Oklahoma State University, Dorman was an Oklahoma House staffer who won his House District 65 seat in 2002.

He is pushing for a statewide vote on a proposed $500 million state bond issue to pay for storm shelters in public schools.
