Flu cases in our area

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo,Texas - Texas is now classified as "high" for flu like illnesses by The Department of Health Services.

The flu kills over 23,000 Americans a year.

The Department of Public Health is urging people who have not received a shot, to not put it off any longer.

Amy Upton's family practice tells us they have already seen more cases of the flu with elderly people than normal.

We spoke the with Dr. Matt Richardson in the Health Department about the current trend in flu cases in our area.

"The number of flu test, that are positive, have doubled from last week. So we are really seeing and up tick in the flu, which means people need to get vaccinated"

Richardson says this year we have already seen both A and B types of the flu in our area.

He also says that this year the vaccinations seems to be a good match for the virus.
