Carnival reportedly knew about issues that stranded passengers

Posted: Updated:

Carnival cruise lines reportedly knew about risks on a ship that stranded passengers for several days in the gulf.

Documents recently filed in a Miami federal court state Carnival Cruise lines were aware of risks from engine fuel hose leaks and knew of recommended precautions before the Carnival Triumph stranded thousands of passengers off the Gulf of Mexico in February.

A lawsuit filed on behalf of dozens of passengers argues the cruise line were negligent in maintenance, allowing Triumph to sail from Galveston on February 7, 2013.

A fire disabled the ship.

CNN was the first to report the newly filed documents.

An Oklahoma couple filed the lawsuit representing more than 3,000 passengers who were aboard. Several residents residents from the panhandle were among those who were stranded aboard that cruise ship.

Carnival responded Tuesday saying that the ship passed inspection before departing from Galveston. Any recommendations were beyond any required safety measures.
