City of Lawton shares status of LPD investigation

LAWTON, Okla._The City of Lawton shed light Friday, into the ongoing investigation of the Lawton Police Department.

In early November, the Lawton City Council announced that Fidelis, an Oklahoma City law enforcement consulting firm, would begin an investigation into the internal workings of the Lawton Police Department at the request of the city.

Friday, Lawton City Manager Bryan Long released a statement on behalf of Lawton's mayor Fred Fitch, as to where the investigation stood.

The statement said the investigation started December 11th, 2013 with officer orientation. In that time all officers were encouraged to come forward with complaints, without fear of retaliation and current and retired officers have and continue to meet with the firm.

It also said the city believed the investigation was a step in the right direction, encouraging officers to voice their concerns and ideas.
