Texas man battles to remove wife from life support

Posted: Updated:

A Texas man is fighting for his wife's final wish that may come as a surprise to some. Erick Munoz is fighting to see his wife's wish fulfilled, to be taken off of life support.

Thirty three year-old Marlise Munoz is in serious condition in the intensive care unit at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. She is unconscious and on a ventilator. Her husband says she wouldn't have wanted her life sustained by a machine. But making the situation even more complicated is Munoz is also pregnant.

State law prohibits withdrawing or withholding life-sustaining treatment from a pregnant patient, regardless of her wishes. The husband has stated in interviews to Dallas news stations that he just wants his wife's wishes fulfilled.

Hospital staff had said they will continue to follow Texas law. In Texas do not resuscitate orders contain a section stating for women in case of a pregnancy they have no effect. The husband has come out and said that he does not agree with this law.
