Shoplifting suspect dies while in police custody

Amarillo, TX - A man accused of shoplifting at Westgate Mall dies while in police custody.

Amarillo Police Special Crimes investigators say officers were called to J.C. Penney Monday, where an alleged shoplifter was being held by the store's loss prevention team. When officers saw him, they believed he was showing signs of a possible drug overdose.

The suspect, 20 year-old Dalton Dakota Knott, was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The cause of death is unknown at this time... pending autopsy and toxicology results.
