Texas being hit the hardest by H1N1

Posted: Updated:

Texas - Deaths from the H1N1 flu virus continue to rise in Texas. Five deaths in the Lone Star State are now being attributed to the H1N1 virus, also known as "swine flu."

Texas is one of four southern states being hit the hardest for the flu virus including Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. Over the past several weeks health officials in Amarillo have also reported an up-tick in flu cases.

Doctors say this year's flu shot can protect you against the H1N1 virus that has resulted in deaths as well as other flu strains. Doctors are also saying that older children and young adults are more vulnerable to H1N1.

There is no expected shortage this year for flu shots. There is a large enough supply currently being reported. Health officials really are urging everyone to start getting vaccinated now even though we have yet to hit the peak of flu season.

Things are already picking up very quickly not only across the state, but right here in the panhandle as well.
