From the Borger Police Department:

January 3rd, 2014

On January 1st, 2014, the Borger Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Nelson.

While en route, officers learned that one individual had been shot and was deceased. It was later learned that the shooting escalated from a family disturbance between the father and son.

The alleged offender, who was on scene upon arrival, was initially detained pending the investigation. The alleged offender, Brendan Kai Moffitt (23 yoa), was later transported to the Borger Police Department and booked on the charge of 1st Degree Murder.

Herschel Bryan Moffitt (47 yoa) sustained fatal injuries from multiple gunshot wounds incurred during the incident.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Justice of the Peace, Judge Hart, and will take place later today, January 3rd, 2014, in Lubbock Texas.

Upon completion of the ongoing investigation, this case will be presented to the Hutchinson County District Attorney's Office.

Borger, TX - An area man is dead after a shooting Wednesday night in Borger.

Police say about 6:30pm, officers were dispatched to 918 Nelson on reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found one person dead, and another man was arrested at the scene.

According to the Borger News-Herald, a family member confirmed to them the identity of the victim as, 47 year old Herschel Bryan Moffitt, and the suspect as the victim's son, 23 year old Kai Moffitt.

The case remains under investigation at this time.
