Altus DJ is missed by many

Posted: Updated:

ALTUS, Okla._Shock and disbelief in Altus today, as friends and co-workers of a local DJ tried to deal with the news that he had been shot death.

As we reported last night, Harley Moody was shot and killed at a home in Lone Wolf around midnight Tuesday. Investigators say he had been shot several times, and his girlfriend, Sandra Woodard, admitted she killed him. She's been arrested, and is in the Kiowa County Jail under a 1 million dollar bond, but has not yet been charged.

The owner of the station moody worked at KEYB, Gayle Ledbetter told us that they are very saddened by his loss, and that she and her co-workers are still in shock, so they declined to go on camera today. I was able to get in touch with a woman who met Moody in California where he was stationed with the Navy at the time.

"He was the kind of person that would give the shirt off his back to anybody. He loved his children more than anything in the world," said Lisa Roberts.

Lisa Roberts says her fiancé and Moody quickly became friends over their love for hotrods.

"He was a huge car person. He loved working on cars and hot rods and he loved his service because he was in the military, in the navy," said Roberts.

Roberts says he had five children with his ex-wife and two small children were currently living with him and Woodard.

"I spent many a nights on the phone with that guy when he was splitting up from his wife and he had a lot of dark times and he was finally happy again trying to make this girl happy I think," said Roberts.

Roberts says she thought moody was finally happy.

"He met this new girl sandy and it seemed like things were great. She had a daughter and a son and it seemed like she loved all the kids and it was going really well," said Roberts.

Roberts says it was a huge shock to her that something like this could happen to such a good person.

"It would be if it happened to anybody but you never think it's going to be somebody you know. It was first time it was someone I knew and was close to," said Roberts.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the case.  They told me late today that an affidavit has been filed with the district attorney's office, but it may be several days before Woodard is charged.
