Stephens County under burn ban

Stephens County, Ok_A 30-day burn ban is in place for Stephens County because of the extreme fire danger.

The ban was issued Monday by County Commissioners and is effective immediately until February 11, 2014.  Under the ban, it is illegal to light fireworks, build a campfire, bonfire or to burn trash or any other material that may cause a wildland fire.

LPG, natural gas grills and charcoal-fired cooking are permitted if conducted over a non-flammable surface and at least five feet from flammable vegetation.  However, any fire resulting from these cooking methods is illegal.

Violation of the burn ban can result in a $500 fine, imprisonment of up to one year or both fine and imprisonment.
