Amarillo, TX - A Clovis man is sentenced to over 20 years in prison for several violent crimes.

25 year-old Paul Villanueva was earlier convicted on charges of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, criminal sexual penetration and assault with a deadly weapon on peace officers.

In May 2012, Villanueva broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and assaulted her at gunpoint, before being shot in the abdomen by police while trying to escape.

Officers say Villanueva pointed a pistol at them several times before they fired their weapon.

Villanueva was sentenced to serve 23 years in prison, after which he will have to register as a lifetime sex offender, serve five to 20 years under intensely supervised probation, and lifetime parole.
