Traffic violation leads to backyard pursuit in Lawton

LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton man took off running after Lawton Police tried to pull him over Friday afternoon.

The suspect pulled into an empty lot at Ft. Sill Blvd and Roger's Lane and jumped from the car while still in motion. While he ran away the car kept going forward until it hit a nearby building. The officer chased after the suspect through the northwest neighborhood while shouting out his description and location over the radio.

The chase took them through several backyards and over fences, all while he took off various pieces of clothing to change he appearance. The officer's persistence paid off in the end, even after losing sight he and other officers were able to find him at a nearby home.

The man said he ran because he though he had warrants out for his arrest, police did find a bottle of pills that was dropped with his clothing.
