Rabies shots needed after bats found in Air Force dorms

Trainees at a San Antonio Air Force base got quite a surprise in their dorm rooms, a surprise that could potentially be dangerous.

More than 200 trainees will be given rabies shots after bats were found living in the dorms at the U.S. Air Force Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. No trainees have reported being bitten, but all will be given rabies shots as a precaution.

The U.S. Air Force Joint Base said in a news release the bats have been seen in the dorms over the past week and a half.

Two bats have been captured and released into a remote area. Another was captured Friday night and will be tested for rabies.

The facility is being monitored for bat activity and crews are working to seal up any potential area for the bats to enter buildings.
