Benefit changes for part timers

Posted: Updated:

Target will no longer offer health insurance to part-time workers encouraging them to sign up for "the affordable care act" instead.

A Target spokeswoman says the company is making the change because fewer than 10 percent of its total workforce of 361,000 participate in the part-time plan.

She says offering part-timers insurance could actually disqualify many from the newly available government subsidies that could reduce their overall health insurance costs.

Home Depot, Trader Joe's, Forever 21 and other major retailers have taken similar actions.
