Residents and businesses honored at 8th Annual Eye Candy Awards

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON,Okla_ Nearly 40 people and businesses in Lawton were honored at Thursday night's 8th Annual Eye Candy Awards, handed out by the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority.

The awards banquet is the authority's biggest fundraiser and this year's event brought in more than $5,000.

Those proceed swill go toward the group's youth volunteers who will use the money for service projects around the city.

Lawton Councilman Jay Burk says presenting locals with awards for everything from curb appeal to community involvement is a great way to spotlight the good being done in Lawton.

"People will enjoy living in your city if they know you care and if the citizen's care about their community then people from outside will care and want to move into our community, so it all works hand in hand and it is economic development," said Burk.

Some of last year's funds went toward restoration efforts at the playground in Elmer Thomas Park. More than 100 local high school students volunteered their time to be involved with that beautification mission.
