Medicine Park's Polar Bear Plunge attracts over 100 brave people

Posted: Updated:

Medicine Park, Okla_With freezing temperatures and snow looming, over 100 brave souls took a plunge into ice cold water Saturday.

The 16th Annual Polar Bear Plunge held in Medicine Park continues to grow bigger and bigger each year. It started small sixteen years ago, but now it attracts several hundred spectators and participants. Those participants were ready to jump in the very cold water.

People even dressed up in funny costumes. One jumper even wore a full on chicken suit.

The soon to be frozen souls joined at Park Tavern to parade down to the creek where everyone gathered ready to take the leap.

A good nerve racking count to ten, then everyone jumps in. The water was frigid cold.

Every one had their own reason why they decided to participate.

One jumper who is known as the Santa Clause of the Polar Bear Plunge said, "well you see if you got anything, you know everyone has the flu and everything you jump in there and it kills all the germs. You don't have the flu bug. You don't have nothing, and it guarantees your heart is going to last another year."
