Drinking water pipeline funding for Clovis and surrounding areas

Clovis, NM - Clovis and other New Mexico communities are getting help when it comes to bringing drinking water to their area.

Clovis, Portales, and Cannon Air Force Base will be getting a boost from the state to bringing drinking water to the area, a $4 million boost.

Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System will be receiving money from the state's Water Project fund. The money will be used to complete the design for connections between the three communities.

The pipeline project would tap into Ute Lake. Critics of the project question whether the lake's water supply will be sustainable with low lake levels, and the on-going drought.

Clovis's mayor says they've reduced demand through conservation and the reuse of waste water, But drinking water wells are still stressed, making the project critical.
