Stolen Walters car may be connected to string of arsons

WALTERS, Okla._A suspicious vehicle was discovered early Friday morning in a field along east South Boundary Road by a passerby, and police believe it's another case of arson.

The vehicle was stolen from a home inside the Walters city limits around 1:30 Friday morning and the resident heard her car being started but it was gone by the time she made it outside. Police worked throughout the morning to locate the vehicle before it was located in the field. They have reason to believe it could be connected to other recent cases of arson to homes and cars in the area.

"We are, at the same time, investigating them as separate incidents but we also see that there is enough information that they may be interconnected by the same group or the same person," said Judah Sheppard, Oklahoma State Fire Marshal.

The investigation is still ongoing and Sheppard said that they are waiting on a set of developments that they believe could prove that all the recent cases of arson are connected.

The vehicle was set on fire near the gas tank but did not sustain much damage.
