Boy injured after darting in front of traffic

Posted: Updated:

ELGIN, Okla._ A young boy was hospitalized after darting out into traffic Friday afternoon.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded when the 11-year-old boy was hit by a car at Highway 17 and H St. The boy was leaving a nearby business, and darted out into traffic running into the side of the car and was knocked to the pavement.

"It just looks like an accident right now, the child wasn't paying attention and ran out in front of traffic, the young lady that was driving the SUV really didn't do anything wrong, she didn't see the kid and the kid didn't see the vehicle," said trooper John Hoover.

The boy had a broken leg, and some scrapes and cuts.

Emergency responders from Apache handled the call since Elgin and Snyder emergency responders were still tied up on a large fire in Snyder.
