Burglar breaks through vacant unit, gets away with $3,400

LAWTON, Okla._ A thief got away with thousands of dollars after breaking into the safe at a store on the west end of town.

The incident happened before 5 a.m. on Feb. 10 at Total Nutrition, but the surveillance video from inside the business tells a similar story of a burglary at a Lawton Subway location on Tuesday.  Mark Trevino, manager at Total Nutrition, opened the store that day and says he immediately noticed boxes in the stock room were out of place.

"He immediately looks right (at the safe)," said Trevino as he watched back the surveillance video from the morning of the burglary. "For him to do that and not have to search around that says something to me."

The thief can be seen in one video backing his white pick-up truck into the loading area behind the retail space. It's believed he broke a lock to the door of the vacant business next to Total Nutrition. Once inside, he cut a hole in the wall and then crawled through to get inside the store.

Video shows the burglar in the cash room looking around and bending over near the safe. The suspect then cut the cord to the surveillance. More than $3,400 was stolen from the safe, according to the store owner.

In the Subway burglary in the wee hours of the morning Tuesday, a man broke through two stores and two walls to get inside the location near the corner of NW 67th Street and Gore Blvd. He escaped with a little more than $90 in his pocket.

Since the incident the folks at Total Nutrition have installed motion sensors to amp up security.

If you have any information pertaining to who might be responsible for the crimes, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (580) 355-INFO.
