NEW BOSTON,Texas (AP) - A Northeast Texas man convicted of multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of two young sisters has been sentenced to six life prison terms.
Forty-nine-year-old Leavelle Franklin must serve three of the life terms consecutively under sentencing from State District Judge Bobby Lockhart in New Boston.
The two girls, 6 and 7 years old, testified they were assaulted by Franklin at his trailer home in Hooks, about 12 miles west of Texarkana. They also testified they were beaten by Franklin and threatened by him to keep silent. They told their mother, who called authorities.
At his punishment hearing, the Texarkana Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1mAgkVO) four women also told Bowie County jurors of being assaulted by him when they were juveniles.
Franklin had a previous record of theft, burglary and drug offenses.
