More earthquakes recorded in Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) _ The United States Geological Survey has recorded more small earthquakes in north-central Oklahoma.

No injuries or damage are reported.

The USGS reports a 2.5 magnitude quake at 2:21 a.m. Saturday about 7 miles southwest of Guthrie and a 2.9 magnitude quake at 8:06 a.m. Saturday about 4 miles northeast of Stillwater.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are general the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not generally seen from quakes below magnitude 4.0.

Several earthquakes have been recorded in the region in recent weeks and a Feb. 8 earthquake that struck near Langston caused several cracks in the walls at the Logan County jail.

Scientists have said they're not sure why seismic activity has spiked, but say they are studying the phenomenon.
