Council: Changes coming soon to LPD

LAWTON, Okla._ Mayor Fred Fitch said Tuesday night there would be some significant changes made within the police department very quickly.

The mayor's comments were followed by the council's acceptance of the final report from a private investigative group that has been looking into the department's operations since November.

The council met in executive session and decided to implement many of the suggestions listed in the report. Some of changes include having an outside promotions panel to make promotions more fair and forming a new committee to be comprised of the police chief, some officers and members of the police union to represent the department and settle disputes as a team.

The full report is available to the public. The city council will also have a committee who monitors the department to make sure the changes are implemented successfully.
