Flowermound VFD gets ready for BBQ fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla._Flowermound volunteer fire fighters will be preparing a hearty BBQ feast Saturday for their annual fundraiser.

They're serving up brisket, chicken and sausage and all the fixings for a BBQ meal. The meal is available to anyone who comes but they do ask for a donation in exchange. In addition to the food, they're also doing a raffle which includes a 70 inch sharp high-def television set.

Last year's event was such a success that they were able to purchase two, five ton fire trucks with the proceeds. This year, they're hoping to buy a garage to house the trucks. Some of the trucks are currently being kept in the officers' homes. Rick Guidry, Flowermound fire fighter, explained the importance of sheltering the vehicles, "If we're able to collect them in a central location, they'll be out of the elements, which is a necessity in the winter to keep them from freezing."

The fundraising is happening tomorrow from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Flowermound Public School at the corner of Flowermound and Bishop Road.

The money helps the department serve almost 500 businesses and homes in its area.
